Prior to covid, it was very difficult for me to get someone to try online tutoring, even if I offered the session for free! I remember I wanted to help a student for an extra session on a weekend and she was going out of town so I suggested we try online. She declined politely even though she was on the verge of failing. That’s one example amongst many but luckily things have changed. People are more open to meeting online. Here I’m going to explain why online works well.

I have tutored hundreds of students since the beginning of covid who have had a positive experience. Only 3 students since covid have insisted on meeting in person and couldn’t focus online. Sadly, all 3 failed their mathematics courses even with in-person tutoring. So online is not the problem. It’s lack of focus. After all, we are on our devices all day. If you can focus watching a movie on your laptop, you can follow a live math lesson with me!

Online tutoring is much more convenient. You could be anywhere with internet connection, a laptop and/or a tablet and get help. You could even be wearing pyjamas and I wouldn’t know. With online tutoring you don’t have to schedule to be at a specific location. Technology has evolved significantly over the last 10 years and with digital notes you don’t have to worry about misplacing your tutoring notes and can have access to them anywhere, anytime, with just about any device with internet connection. This makes it easier to study.

Tips for online tutoring:
(1) Headphones are really important. They allow you to focus on the lesson and not be distracted by outside noise and hear the sound better.
(2) Good internet connection is essential and having an ipad or surface pro is a bonus.
